Is there a better proof of quality than the fact that Rollin's flicks like this one have managed to cause riots in Paris? Requiem for a Vampire belongs to the maestro's golden era of lusty vampire fairy tales, which became his trademark. In short, you will see what Bram Stoker, Francis F. Coppola or even Robert Eggers have denied you – shame on them! It’s hard to put this comic-book-style horror into words, this distorted piece where anything is possible in the picturesque countryside. Its sensational images were achieved not by mumbo-jumbo brainstorming in the offices of Cahiers du Cinéma, but by the completely childish playfulness of a delusional creator. The schlock dreamer Rollin has elevated amazement above reason, he managed to shoot a cream of the crop. And we are more than happy to eat it up (and suck it up).
