The Canadian movie In a Violent Nature is already praised as one of the best independent horrors of the year. First-time director Chris Nash turned the slasher genre upside down. At its core we still get a classic tale about a bunch of travelers who are chased by a masked killer in the wilderness, but this time we see the whole story from the murderer’s perspective. Be prepared for an ambient slasher that combines over-the-top gore with arthouse slow cinema sensibility. The director was inspired by Gus Van Sant’s minimalistic movies as well as by Friday the 13th. So the nature of the beast in this movie is not only violent, but also poetic.
