Look what’s buried inside your television. The Shockproof Autumn Special is inextricably linked with the backdrop of autumnal decay and that’s the perfect excuse to kick off the programme with a deliciously decayed gem, fished out from the back shelf of the shockproof film pantry, labeled with a dusty sign reading “The 80‘s.” Written, produced and directed by Robert Scott – who has never made another movie again – The Video Dead tells a magnificently unhinged story of a paranormal television that causes zombies from a never-ending film to enter the real world and sow nothing but death and destruction. We get throat slittings, multiple stranglings, a bit of flesh eating, a machete decapitation all done with zesty gusto while the zombie make up is excellent, very crusty and, well, dead looking! In 2010, Bloody Disgusting included the film in their list of Top Ten Most Awesome Chainsaw Scenes. A highly original, in every moment totally unpredictable and hugely entertaining zombie movie that stands out on its own and simply refuses to conform to the rules of its own sub-genre.
