Shrine of Abominations

USA 2025 / directed by Skinner, Ross Kennedy / 38 min. / HD
ČSFD / IMDB / Letterboxd

In the cursed world of Orbus Kaal, the sorcerer Gar-Gnargorath tries to invoke the cosmic horror forms of Demotep to begin his universal plans of revenge and domination. But in this shadowy world there is no shortage of terrifying metaphysical creatures and so the astral monster Morgogg watches Gar-Gnargorath from afar, waiting for his moment. Shrine of Abominations depicts a multi-dimensional battle of chaos versus even more chaos in an expansive world of dark gods, wicked magic and strange creatures. A stop-motion horror fantasy film was created by renowned artist Skinner and sculptor & monster maestro Ross Kennedy, the project features collaboration from special effects legend Phil Tippett, whose film Mad God we have previously screened at the festival. The mind melting visuals of this monstrous orgy are perfectly complemented by a sweeping heavy metal soundtrack. All hail Lord Skinner!

Doctor Mordrid

USA 1992 / directed by Albert Band, Charles Band / 74 min. / HD
ČSFD / IMDB / Letterboxd

A long time before the Marvel Cinematic Universe was even a speck on anyone’s horizon, the B-movie veteran Charles Band of the Full Moon Features took interest in the most psychedelic of Marvel’s superheroes, Doctor Strange. However, plans for a direct adaptation fell through because the studio’s rights expired during pre-production. Enter Doctor Mordrid, the unlicensed version from the parallel dimension of trash. Anton Mordrid is a powerful wizard sent to Earth to stop the evil sorcerer Kabal from opening the gate to Hell. Mordrid has been waiting for signs of Kabal’s presence for 150 years, but don‘t worry, the time of their epic battle approaches… and with Kabal come magical duels, supernatural tricks and astral travel, all within the confines of the relatively limited budget. You see, in the early 90‘s Full Moon had their best years already behind them, but they were still churning out decent and entertaining B-movies like Puppet Master or Demonic Toys. And this enchantingly naive urban fantasy adventure, starring Jeffrey Combs of the Re-Animator fame, is definitely one of them.
