“This time the count doesn’t just go for the throat!” The biggest stars of the porno chic era are going all in for this carnal version of Bram Stocker’s classic tale of lust and vampires. Produced and co-written by future talent agent Darryl Marshak (who managed movie careers of Hilary Swank, Leonardo DiCaprio, David Bowie or William Shatner) and directed by his father Phillip Marshak, Dracula Sucks is a wicked blend of grandiose ambitions, low budget limitations, incredible cast and surprising non-sequitur silliness and random absurdities – starting with the fact that nobody bothered to shave the lead actor’s beard off. Taking place at Dr. Seward’s asylum for the mentally ill, the raunchy update sees all the novel’s characters being slaves to their psychosexual anxieties and perverse desires. The arrival of the new neighbour, a certain Transylvanian count, starts blurring the line between patients and doctors at the clinic. Shot on the impressive location of Castle Ranch in California, the production takes a decidedly absurdist and tongue-in-cheek approach to the Dracula lore. On the other hand, the filmmakers were aiming to create the most spectacular porn film to date, which is evidenced by the costume design and postproduction but mainly on the casting side. The film’s credits read like a list of the greatest adult film stars of its time, featuring Jamie Gillis, Annette Haven, Serena, Kay Parker, John Leslie, Seka, John Holmes and Paul Thomas.
