There are good movies. There are bad movies. And then there’s Black Magic Rites. Half-forgotten schlock in the career of the cultic heathen Renato Polselli, the fearless tempter of Italy’s censorship laws. His baroque-style smut violates – apart from the luscious actors – all cinematic practices, narrative rules and genre norms. Compared to this hallucinatory ride, Enter the Void, The Devils or Eliška Likes it Wild are mere drab blots in the colors of grey. Polselli’s masterpiece brutally rapes your perceptions and reincarnates you into unsuspected realms of spectatorship. It is impossible not to succumb to this rollercoaster erotic horror, a kind of sick LSD paraphrase of Wuthering Farts. Believe: this flick is simply beyond belief!
