Which is the most efficient weapon - a bow and arrow, a bazooka, or a flying demonic fetus created from the blood of a hundred children? Move over Indiana Jones, because here comes your Hong Kong clone who battles skeletons raised from the tomb, martial arts monks and evil masters of dark magic. This pulp whirlwind brings a barrage of eye-popping genre elements, which in itself are pretty surprising, but here side by side they make for a sheer insane delight. Directed by Lam Nai-Choi, the master of trash spectacles and fascinating low-budget analogue VFX, Seventh Curse is one of his most fascinating and wildest flicks. Unlike his most famous cult movie, the prison-set brawler and gore extravaganza Story of Ricky (1992), here we get a constant supply of surprising twists, wild attractions and excessive doses of genre elements ranging from adventure and action to horror and gore, but also including slapstick and the occasional soft core thrill.
