The House on Sorority Row

A textbook example of the '80s slasher movie with plenty of atmosphere and loads of suspense, The House on Sorority Row tells the story of seven college graduates, one bitchy house mother and a prank that goes very, very wrong. Now the girls of Pi Theta have to figure out where to stash a dead body and who is trying to silence them one by one in the dark hallways of their sorority house. Mark Rosman’s low-budget debut became a hit shortly after its release and still occupies a place of honor in the slasher pantheon. The first-time writer-director displays a flair for suspenseful set pieces and makes the most of the filming locations while adding stylistic touches to the film with good camera work, borrowing from Henri-Georges Clouzot, Mario Bava or Brian De Palma. In short The House On Sorority Row is a house worth visiting.
